Evaporation Affects the In Vitro Deposition of Nebulized Droplet in an Idealized Mouth-Throat Model

Nebulizer is one of inhalation therapy’s most widely used aerosol generation devices. Nowadays, the vibrating mesh nebulizer has become popular owing to its compactness and noiselessness. In this study, an experimental system proposed measure deposition fraction (DF) nebulized sodium chloride (NaCl) droplets in idealized mouth-throat airway model. The results show that before DF increases 58.6% with increasing flow rate 60 L/min, there a decrease from 42.4% 15.5% when 15 22.5 L/min for normal saline solution. These substantially differ conclusions dry powder or particle experiments simulations, which monotonously rate. This suggests droplet evaporation during transport plays important role. experiment also showed generated solutions higher NaCl concentration have DFs.
